Nintendo just finished their Switch 2 direct and news is trickling out about games prices of up to $80 digital and $90 physical

As reported by Insider Gaming, Mario Kart World will retail at $79.99 in the United States digitally. The physical game, which is in some cases, an empty cartridge only used for downloads, will supposedly be $10 more. Donkey Kong Bonanzo retails at $69.99 Digital, showing an increase of $10 over the Switch pricing on games.
Insider Gaming also had this about European releases: “The price increase also means that Nintendo Switch 2 games will cost 80 euros for a digital copy in Europe, while physical will be for 90 euros. Image provided by @elesnicho, and the 90 euro price tag can be found on the Nintendo store here.”

Game prices have been in the news lately, with industry analysts hearing rumblings about upwards of $100 for GTA 6. IGN covered one talking about it, stating:
The suggestion of a $100 GTA 6 technically comes from Epyllion CEO and analyst Matthew Ball in a lengthy presentation on the state of gaming in 2025 published last week. Near the end of the presentation, Ball says that “some gamemakers hope GTA 6 will be priced at $80 to $100, breaking the $70 barrier and helping $50 titles to move up to $60, $60 to do $70, $70 to $80 etc.”
“Packaged game prices have never been lower in real terms than they are today — even though budgets are at all-time highs and player growth is stalled,” Ball writes. “GTA 6 could re-establish packed video game prices after decades of deflation despite rampant cost growth.”

Too much money, I’ll stick with game pass ultimate 😄
“The physical game, which is an empty cartridge only used for downloads”
There is NO indication that Mario Kart will be a Game-Key game, and this is just plainly false. Not all game will be Game-Key games, as they are in the current Switch generation with download required games, such as LA Noire and Wolfenstein 2.
