Ruffy and the Riverside is coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC on June 2nd, 2025. We’ve covered the game and had one of its original founders on our podcast. In our previous coverage, we stated:

Gorgeous colour visuals and a paper-sprite aesthetic is what pulled my gaze to developer Zockrates Laboratories and publisher Phiphen Games‘ coming 3D platformer ‘Ruffy and the Riverside’. Launching on PC and consoles later this quarter, Ruffy will be playable in a bite-sized experience for PC players via Steam tomorrow on the 11th and I’ve had a chance to run through this brief demo over the weekend. It might’ve been a wee-short 30 minutes of gameplay, but I think I’ve found a contender for a really great 3D platformer here in Ruffy Riverside valley.

Ruffy and the Riverside starts us off with Ruffy, Pip the Bee, and some old mole (whose name escapes me), falling down a cliff at the speed of gravity relative to the realm of the Riverside. Apparently, a misplaced “throw” of sorts sent all three down a waterfall—but not to worry because here we get to learn about Ruffy’s power: the ability to swap textures in the environment, completely changing the properties of the world. So, I swapped the waterfall out with vines on a nearby rock, creating the perfect escape for Ruffy and the gang.

This is Ruffy’s major mechanic and is incredibly useful in navigating the world, not just to cross tall chasms and scale things, but to solve puzzles that come up as you wander about. Like many platforming adventures, Ruffy is all about gathering stars from the main hub world(s) and the levels within that he’ll be traversing. Why he wants these stars, I kind of forgot, but star-hunting we must do! In the demo, we have access to three levels and the main Riverside hub which has plenty of mole and raven traffic running about.
