Ori Developers Moon Studios go ‘fully independent’ for latest game ‘No Rest for the Wicked’

Once more, into the Breach...

Besides sharing the news that Moon’s previous franchise Ori has now sold a whopping 15 million copies across the two existing titles, they’ve been busy with other things. No Rest For The Wicked is getting a major update called “The Breach” and Moon have an update regarding how the game is going to be published.

Speaking on their latest update video for “The Breach” update for No Rest For The Wicked, the team provided an update on their publishing situation following Take Two’s decision to sell off the in-house publishing label, Private Division.

Thomas Mahler and Gennadiy Korol shared more detail, with Thomas speaking candidly about the situation: “Take Two decided to sell off Private Division, which was unexpected news for us. After some deliberation, we saw an opportunity.”

Gennadiy elaborated further, saying “After months of negotiations, we reached an agreement to buy the publishing rights for No Rest for the Wicked back, so that Moon Studios could become fully independent. This legal process took time, and we couldn’t say much while it was all happening.

Now that they’re fully independent following the conclusion of that legal process, Thomas and the team are very confident, saying “We believe this will give you even more confidence in our vision, because we’re free to build No Rest for the Wicked exactly how we want, without ever needing to go silent again.”

The Breach

The Breach update is the biggest one yet for Moon’s latest title, which expands the campaign significantly, introducing new areas to explore, new factions to wrangle with and a whole host of new armours and weapons.

The next update is looking like another big one – with co-op finally being the next major feature addition, allowing up to 4 players to venture out together. That will have to wait a little while, as the team are still putting the finishing touches on The Breach before it releases on April 30th.

We checked out the initial version of No Rest For The Wicked when it became available in early access. While the game is absolutely beautiful to look at, there’s still some work to be done, with our review’s editor Jesse saying: “This is a review in progress and I’ll be checking the game out constantly as it progresses through early access.  Right now I’m not having nearly as much fun as I was hoping.  Gorgeous visuals, occasionally stellar combat, and an intriguing narrative have been held back by progression issues, and far too much busywork in-between runs. I have confidence that Moon Studios will figure things out, though, and that by version 1.0 this game could be an all-timer.

No Rest For The Wicked is available on Steam Early Access, and is currently 30% off, so it’s good time to consider checking it out. Console players will have to wait a little longer, but it’s still coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 at some point in the future.
