If you're here, then you're on the look out for the best co-op games to play with your pals - we gave you a list for 2024, but as always, the world moves on, so here's out list for 38 of the Best Co-op Games on Xbox 2025, which we'll keep updated for you (Because we're good like that!) While not every game in our list is on Game Pass, if it is, then you and your buddies all have access (as long as you have an active subscription) and can get stuck right in. Best Co-op Games (In no particular order) Split Fiction https://youtu.be/JLtkEBlq8n4 Arguably one of the best co-op games of ALL TIME, we're starting off our list for 2025 strong with one of the highest rated games of the year. From the same developers of It Takes Two (seen below) it's an evolution of that shared screen formula, but is better in almost every way. If you haven't played it yet, go buy it. You can also still invite your mate if you're not sharing the couch for free using their built in "friend's pass' version. You won't regret it! Dead Island 2 (Available on Game Pass) https://youtu.be/gz6MO1tByHM Dead Island 2 is fantastic. It knows what it is, and that’s a ton of sneakily smart dumb fun. The FLESH system is horrific and awful and the best. Smashing, chopping, burning, and exploding humans has never been so fun, especially with a friend. Per the developers, "As a proper RPG experience, Dead Island 2 offers plenty of exciting quests, a crazy cast of characters, and a thrilling pulp story, to truly immerse you in its twisted universe. Re-playability is guaranteed. Add an over-the-top co-op mode for up to three players, and you’ll stay in LA for a very long (and gory) trip." It Takes Two (Available on Game Pass via EA Play) https://youtu.be/ZPfzYVTEuRA It Takes Two is a game that deserves to be played. Presented in split-screen at all times (supporting both online and couch co-op). In our review, we said: It Takes Two is like the David Bowie of the Action-Adventure gaming world – flitting from style to style while hitting all of the marks and remaking them all in its own way. An absolute must-play for any co-op gaming addicts. Diablo IV (Available on Game Pass) https://youtu.be/gBNgDzPXj6U Diablo IV is a triumph. It fulfils its promise, combining the aesthetics and feeling of Diablo II with the fantastic gameplay of III. It is dark and gory, featuring a meaty campaign and endgame that should delight fans of the series for hundreds if not thousands of hours. It's massive and you can play with your mates. What's not to love? Overcooked! 2 (Available on Game Pass) An expansive sequel to the hilarious cooking game Overcooked!, Overcooked! 2 makes cooking in the kitchen a frantic, frustrating and hilarious experience! Supporting up to 4 player online and couch co-op play, prepare to ruin friendships and relationships when you play this together. (I'm still not talking to my ex-flatmate) Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 https://youtu.be/e5jnP-g014U What we said in our review: Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 is an amazing, epic ride through a glorious hellscape. Visceral combat is matched by stunning graphics to create a title that never relents in being as over the top as possible. With 3 player online co-op through the campaign, as well as various multiplayer modes makes this one hell of a good time. Far Cry: New Dawn (Available on Game Pass) Per the developers, "Dive into a transformed, vibrant, post-apocalyptic Hope County, Montana, 17 years after a global nuclear catastrophe. Lead the fight against the Highwaymen as they seek to take over the last remaining resources in the latest installment of Far Cry. Fight to survive in a post-apocalyptic world as you take up arms to fight alongside a friend in online co-op." Worth a go if you've got Game Pass and you're a fan of the franchise, surely? Deep Rock Galactic (Available on Game Pass) https://youtu.be/6PhXM5VI0QE The developers themselves said it best - Deep Rock Galactic is a 1-4 player co-op FPS featuring badass space Dwarves, 100% destructible environments, procedurally-generated caves, and endless hordes of alien monsters. What we said in our review: Deep Rock Galactic is a tightly-honed and laser-focused cooperative FPS that stands toe-to-toe with the best in the genre. With a mix of excellent gameplay, solid graphics, and brilliant gameplay concepts, I strongly recommend it to anyone looking to play either solo or especially with their friends. Evil West (Available on Game Pass) https://youtu.be/guEiBVEGF1o In our review, we said: Evil West is damned fun. It is a video game assed video game and I love it for that. Poor writing and some technical issues are not enough to hold back what is otherwise a blast to play. Be it solo or co-op, if a turn-your-brain-off type of kill-a-thon sounds appealing to you, then I think this one is worth it. Flock (Available on Game Pass) https://youtu.be/_yFy8B_2YVc What we said in our review: What a refreshing delight Flock is. Bright, bold and absolutely bursting with vibrant colour and the kind of charming quirkiness that constantly teases a smile; this is truly a world of creature comforts. It doesn’t do a lot ‘new’, but what it does do, it does brilliantly. If you’re an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, you should absolutely add this one to your download queue. Go fly around creature hunting with a friend. Forza Horizon 5 (Available on Game Pass and coming to PS5) https://youtu.be/OTFAGdGTCB0 What we said in our review: This game is nearly perfect for me and there is no getting around that. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it does make it smoother and faster than ever. Jaw-dropping graphics are paired with best-in-class handling and excellent audio. Jump online with pals and race, explore and importantly - have fun! Gang Beasts (Available on Game Pass) As per the developer, Gang Beasts is a silly multiplayer party game with surly gelatinous characters, brutal slapstick fight sequences, and absurd hazardous environments, set in the mean streets of Beef City. This is a multiplayer party game where the very wonky and ridiculous physics is kind of the whole point. Customise your character, and fight your pals and other online players in the very, very silly game. Gears of War (All available on Game Pass) A co-op staple, if you've never played a single Gears of War title, then you're in for a treat. Every game in the series is available on Xbox Game Pass for you to play with friends. Gears of War and Gears of War 2 are two player co-op, with Gears of War 3, Gears of War 4 and Gears 5 being 4 player co-op. There's even Gears of War: Judgement, a spin-off for you to try. Go chainsaw some Locust in half and have a good time! Palworld (Available on Game Pass in Game Preview) https://youtu.be/gYVwBnlI3Mo What we said: Palworld is a solid survival game, with Pokémon-lite mechanics, tied to a beautiful world that happily rips off sound effects, looks, and UI’s from other titles. It’s a weird mix of good and great parts that is an excellent Early-Access whole. It’s available on Game Pass on console and PC and I think it is definitely worth a download! Whether Palworld will survive through 2025 is another matter as the developers are currently being sued by Nintendo and the Pokemon Company for "patent infringement". All You Need is Help (Available on Game Pass) https://youtu.be/mTSag3bMgCI Created by Q-Games (the folks behind PixelJunk Monsters) this is a very silly co-operative puzzler for up to 4 players. Take control of cube-creatures that become various Tetris-like shapes and complete objectives. You can't rotate on your own, so your team will need to help push you into the right position. Throughout play, you'll unlock coins with which you can purchase cosmetic items to decorate your abode and yourself. It's adorable, and absolutely worth a play with some pals. Minecraft (Available of Game Pass) Minecraft is a franchise is massive, and of course is available in Microsoft's Gaming subscription service, Game Pass. Beyond the standard building-and-survival focused original game, there are other flavours of Minecraft you can try with friends too. https://youtu.be/VXMGMoLWjcs The first is the action RPG "Diablo-like" Minecraft Dungeons. In our review, we said: The mixture of Minecraft aesthetics and fast-paced ARPG tropes creates a familiar yet unique formula that can satisfy purists and newcomers alike, both in solo and co-op. The choices made to have a game that accommodates less experienced players takes a toll on the title’s variety and depth, but at the low entry price point of 19.99 USD/EUR or through Game Pass it seems like a no-brainer. https://youtu.be/bZ7Kxx3p53U Then there's Minecraft Legends, which is more like a combination of RTS and Tower Defence. In our review, we said: Minecraft Legends wasn’t a game I was particularly excited about, mostly due to its strategy leanings. However, it’s always nice to be surprised, and there’s a lot of fun to be had, particularly with friends online. The single player can be as chill as you’d like it to be, but PVP is absolute panic inducing carnage in the best kind of way. Powerwash Simulator (Available on Game Pass) https://youtu.be/hQJozgR_SMs Pick up your hoses, get your nozzles at the ready, and soap up that wall because Powerwash Simulator is bloody relaxing, and playable in up to 6 player co-op! What we said in our review: PowerWash Simulator is a very simple, and very good game. Alone or with friends it’s both fun and stupidly satisfying to clean dirt with water. A healthy variety of locations, tools, a solid upgrade path, and even new looks are on hand to make this one well worth checking out. Sea of Thieves (Available on Game Pass) https://youtu.be/ZvLr2bdQQw8 Rare’s piratical sandbox Sea of Thieves launched a little light in terms of cargo in the hold back in 2018, but in it’s time at sea, it has gone from strength to strength, with the developers at Rare remaining committed to bringing fans of the game more of what they wanted. In our latest re-review of the game following it's release on PlayStation 5, we said: Sea of Thieves remains an incredible experience for those of us who like to venture out into the unknown. The framework provided by the quests and the world is merely a routine, a backdrop of activities that allows the wonderfully unexpected and often hilarious to happen. It’s a beautiful and incredibly realised shared-world adventure, and for many players, the question of what might be over that horizon remains as alluring as ever.ecially in co-op, it’s an easy recommendation for me. All four heroes play fantastically and are quite different from one another. It also looks great on a Series X. I hope that Gotham Knights becomes a series because this is one hell of a first entry. The Halo Franchise (All available on Game Pass) What list about co-op gaming would be complete without containing at least one Halo title? Thankfully, because this is an Xbox-focused list - mostly - we've got more than just one! https://youtu.be/i3dtfEpzeBE First up, there's the Master Chief Collection, which contains all of Bungie's original Halo games - Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach - all available to play through in their entirety in co-op play. It also includes Halo 4, which was 343's first foray into the series. What we said in our review: Any future compilation of titles should look to this as the benchmark for what a collection of beloved titles should be. If you like first-person shooters, love Halo, have never played Halo, or anything in-between then you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t give this collection a try. Then we have Halo 5, also available on Game Pass, and of course the latest in the mainline franchise, Halo Infinite. https://youtu.be/VmO3xwvKezA In our review, we said: An epic campaign that is everything true fans of the series have wanted since our nostalgia-driven brains started to really appreciate just how cool levels like the Silent Cartographer or Two Betrayals could be with modern tech. In a year packed with sub-par launches for some of the biggest first-person shooter franchises, it really feels good to simply say this: Halo is back. I for one, welcome the return of the king. Halo Wars 2 (Available on Game Pass) https://youtu.be/gOhin3fAT5c But wait, there's more! What about Halo Wars 2? That's right, this RTS is available on Game Pass and is playable in co-op play throughout the whole campaign. What we said in our review: It’s not the deepest RTS, and it really is best for fans of the Halo universe. As it is available for Game Pass there is no harm in trying things solo or even better, with a friend in coop. Add in the excellent expansion 'Awakening the Nightmare' and you have yourself a genuinely awesome game. Atlas Fallen (Available on Game Pass) https://youtu.be/uS4VJO5KuDw Atlas Fallen is close to being damned good. It is let down by a lack of variety in enemy encounters, poor side quests, and dreadful writing. Still, the combat quickly becomes damned fun and with the option of co-op, it’s well worth checking out if you want some God of Crackdown-style action platforming adventures. MechWarrior 5: Clans (Available on Game Pass) https://youtu.be/wchETZecuZM If you’re an existing BattleTech or MechWarrior fan, I think you’ll adore this latest entry in the franchise. If your preference is centred around the more simulator-like aspects of the series, that adoration will be mostly reserved for MechWarrior 5: Clans excellent narrative. Either way, the game delivers a full 5 player co-op experience, so there's more than enough bang for your buck with this one. And that's our list! That's a total of 37 titles, all playable in co-op, with most of them available as part of your Game Pass subscription. But as this is an Xbox focused list, let's sneak in just one more... Towerborne (Early Access, coming Game Pass in 2025) https://youtu.be/wbxKrXkLv0Q Now there's a slight caveat - Towerborne isn't available on Xbox until early 2025, and while it'll be on Game Preview via Game Pass - it's not there yet. In the world of Towerborne, you play as an ‘Ace’, tasked with protecting the last remnants of humanity following the destruction of the City of Numbers. You and up to 4 friends can help protect civilisation in this frenetic side-scrolling brawler. What we said in our review: Towerborne is slick, chaotic, gorgeous and above all – fun. I have high hopes that with an eager community and the team at Stoic at the helm, listening and reacting, and above all working with that community, Towerborne can grow – from a unique and interesting game into something genre-defining, and proving perhaps, that new live-service games can succeed, even now.
