FragPunk Console Launch delayed due to ‘unexpected technical challenges’

Fragpunk, a new take on the tactical 5v5 hero shooter genre is launching on March 6th, but a last minute delay means that console players on both Xbox and Playstation will have to wait just a little bit longer.

In a post shared on X (Formerly Twitter), the FragPunk team shared the following update for fans on both Console platforms that were “looking forward to launching into battle.

“However, we want to be fully transparent with you: during the console compliance testing process, we encountered unexpected technical challenges in optimization and adaptation. Rather than rushing the console release and providing a potentially poor user experience, we have made the difficult decision to delay the launch of the console versions to ensure that players receive a comparable experience to those on PC.”

Whatever the issue above is for FragPunk, it’s caused enough of a concern to delay the game entirely, just 2 days before launch on both Xbox and PlayStation, including the cancellation of pre-orders, which will automatically be refunded on both platforms.

The developers have stated that they do plan to compensate console gamers, firstly by providing “all rewards gained via engagement, beginning from the start of season 1 until the console version goes live (including in-game currency, cosmetics, exp and more” and that more detailed information will be shared in future announcements. They will also be “providing in-game currency worth $10 to these players when the console versions officially launch.

If you’re worried about pre-order bonuses, fret not – while they have no plans to issue a new pre-order bundle, it will be available in a “time-limited way after the console versions are released.

In terms of our coverage of FragPunk, I was planning to take a look at the game on Xbox when it released to bring you our official verdict – it may be the case that I’ll have to play on PC for the time being. We’ll see what happens!
