Ubisoft Shutters UK Studio Leamington, 185 Staff Layoffs Company-wide

Ubisoft disbands a whole studio in another wave of layoffs.

Games publisher Ubisoft have announced another wave of layoffs, with 185 jobs to be cut in another downsize to their business. This time, Leamington Spas-based Ubisoft studio Ubisoft Leamington will also be shuttered, with its team of 50 being part of the current wave of layoffs affecting Ubisoft locations in Stockholm, Düsseldorf, and at Ubisoft Reflections.

In a statement to Eurogamer on the matter:

“As part of our ongoing efforts to prioritise projects and reduce costs that ensure long-term stability at Ubisoft, we have announced targeted restructurings at Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Stockholm and Ubisoft Reflections and the permanent closure of Ubisoft Leamington site.”

“Unfortunately, this should impact 185 employees overall. We are deeply grateful for their contributions and are committed to supporting them through this transition.”

This is Ubisoft’s first wave of layoffs for the year, but the company have let roughly 350 employees go over the course of the last six months in the wake of their free-to-play title ‘XDefiant’ being sunset among other “alignments to business”. Ubisoft Leamington, formerly FreeStyleGames, was a developer that primarily supported Ubisoft’s large-scale projects such as ‘Star Wars Outlaws‘, ‘Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’, and the like. Before that, they were under Activision’s wing and assisted in the development of Call of Duty titles and their own DJ Hero series of games.
