Top-rated radio broadcaster James O’Brien tells unsuspecting audience that his TV is an Xbox

'Waffer-thin'

LBC presenter James O’Brien reviewed Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on Friday, marking the first video game review on his show for “a very long time.”

To his loyal and longtime listeners (of which I include myself), this may have sounded a little odd – as James revealed he is “the proud owner of a PlayStation 5.” One listener message even went so far as to taunt him with an “Ooh! A PS5 and an Xbox? Get you!

As it turns out, LBC’s most popular radio host had an interesting nugget of information about his gaming setup at home – which he happily shared with his listeners. O’Brien owns a Samsung Smart TV capable of playing Xbox via Cloud Gaming.

His live-on-air self-questioning of whether or not that made him sound “less privileged or more privileged” to an audience who’s already pulled him up on having access to two different platforms led him to divulge how it works — explaining to his enormous audience that he has a “wafer-thin telly that is so state-of-the-art it’s got a built-in Xbox.” (to evoke the Monty Python sketch).

James O’Brien went on to give his overall impressions of Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, summarising it as “brilliant – it’s exactly what you’d expect, or hope an Indiana Jones game would be. It’s a mixture of combat and adventure, investigation and problem-solving.” He also remarked on how open the game feels too, as opposed to it being entirely linear. His only criticism was that combat felt quite repetitive after a while, but he was overjoyed by the sound a guitar made when used as a weapon.

It’s good to hear that James O’Brien – LBC’s most popular radio host – has found a way to play Xbox without a console – and share his enjoyment of Indiana Jones and The Great Circle with his (rather large) audience.

After all, that seems to be what Microsoft is all about right now; putting great games in the hands of as many people as possible – in whichever way they prefer. Phil Spencer talked a little bit about the future of the platform during a chat with Gamertag Radio.
