A new competitor to OpenCritic and MetaCritic announced – say hello to CriticDB!

An end to review bombing?

Today a new video game aggregation platform enters the scene, and it looks like it has a pretty big vision on what it plans to bring to the table – say hello to CriticDB!

Per the press release, CriticDB is launching with a variety of really nice features that the team describe as being “essential to building a platform and community around game discovery.”

It seems the plan isn’t just for CriticDB to simply do what their competitors do – they’re bringing features for outlets like ours, in addition to PR firms and creators too.

  • Independent Pages for Games – Critic/User Reviews, Previews, Similar Games, and more.
  • Outlet/Creator Pages – Follow your favorite outlets and Creators for notifications of new reviews.
  • Browse Aggregate Game Scores across, platform, genre, developer and more.
  • The community can create missing game pages, and link similar games together.
  • Create & Share your Favorites, Wishlists, Played, Beaten, and more with Lists!
  • Share your thoughts on the latest games (and those from your backlog) with User Reviews (Pro-Only)
  • Earn EXP and Badges, with leaderboards for the users with the most games created and linked.
  • (For Outlets) Manage your Outlet page and Team to start, including information that makes it easier for PR to find you.
  • (For Authors) Claim your author page and display your Critic Reviews & Previews alongside your lists and User Reviews.
  • (For PR) Get access to the best contacts for each outlet, and tools to find Outlets easier.

CriticDB is going to launch with more than 75 different outlets (yes – XboxEra plan on being there) and their reviews aggregated, in addition to over 20,000 reviews in the database, set across over 2,000 game pages. Outlets can sign up, and once accepted, can independently verify their authors in addition to adding reviews, previews and more.

As to why it exists, in steps Rutledge Daugette, Co-Founder of CriticDB – “I wanted to build a place that could uplift both Games and Outlets, leveraging both to create an ecosystem of game discovery. Along that same vein, we wanted this platform to become a way that Outlets and PR could enhance how they’re able to connect and work together to cover more titles.”

CriticDB will launch with both free and paid user accounts, allowing anyone to utilise the site and its platform for free. Users can choose to upgrade and support the site, in addition to being able to post user reviews – which is a nice way to remove the awful act of reviewing bombing. There’s a ‘robust roadmap’ detailed on the site, which can be seen below.

Right now, it’s a landing page over at https://criticdb.com – the full site launches next week, on January 30th. You can sign up to join their Discord server, right here.
