Tom Warren of The Verge has just reported that Xbox will allow cloud streaming for games you own, starting in November.

In a story reported recently, Sarah Bond of Xbox stated that users would be able to play games and purchase games through the Xbox App. It wasn’t fully clear if she only meant cloud gaming or titles you own as well. According to Tom Warren of The Verge, games you own on Xbox will be playable starting in November, 2024. Mr Warren states:

“As part of a long-running project known as Project Lapland inside Microsoft, the software giant has been readying its Xbox Cloud Gaming servers to be able to support streaming thousands of games. I’m told Microsoft will first test its new Xbox Cloud Gaming streaming capabilities with Xbox Insiders in November, before expanding them to more Xbox users.”

Which games will or will not be available is not listed yet. With it being an Xbox Insiders opt-in test one could assume that the number of titles would be limited. We will have to wait and see when Project Lapland lands. This all has kicked off thanks to a recent US court ruling, in which Google was forced to open its app store to 3rd parties.

*Updated: Jez Corden on today’s Xbox Two podcast has stated that one issue is the storage required for Xbox titles. Sometimes the cloud gaming queue is actually the system copying over game files for that server blade. The initial run of Insiders will have a limited number of titles available due to this limitation issue.

“Key features – like the ability to explore Game Pass and manage your membership – will now be found in one place with the Xbox app on mobile. You’ll be able to browse the full Game Pass catalog to find your favorite games and stay in the loop with alerts for new games coming to the service. If you’re a Game Pass Ultimate member, you’ll also be able to view and claim your Perks. Game Pass Ultimate members can also stream select games through Xbox Cloud Gaming on their iOS or Android devices using a supported browser at xbox.com/play
