Ahead of the Championship Sunday game, 343 teased a little piece of news, saying in a recent post on X (Formerly Twitter) that we should all be “sure to catch our studio update right before the Grand Finals. You won’t want to miss it!“. They were right, because today, Halo moves to Unreal Engine 5.
In case you weren’t aware, Halo, and by extension, 343 Industries are busy celebrating! The 3rd Halo World Championship is happening right now, where pro-Halo players duke it out for the ultimate prize, in addition to tonnes of cool events, panels and more.
The team at 343 have already announced one cool update for Halo Infinite, with the announcement of a third-person mode coming to game later this year.

However, as teased, they had one more reveal up their sleeves.
Halo moves to Unreal Engine 5 and reveal Project Foundry
Pierre Hintze, the new studio head for 343 Industries joined the stage to reveal the news. Halo is going to continue, and from now on, it’s going to built with the power of Unreal Engine 5.
I recorded the full HCS sit down and video for you, right here.
The bad news, it’s not a Halo game in the here and now. It’s a research project, to show off just how good Halo can look when it’s built with the best technology out there, as Halo moves to Unreal Engine 5.

Not only that, 343 Industries is no more. Say hello to ‘Halo Studios’, continuing that long-standing trend for Microsoft to pigeon-hole their studios to just one IP. That look set to continue for Halo Studios – but Halo is a BIG universe.

As a long time Halo nerd, I’m excited. It looks incredible. It’ll be a long while before we see that future with a pad in our hands, but I for one, can’t wait.
