Has GTA 6 Been Delayed to 2026?

UPDATE: In a new post from Rockstar, the game has been officially delayed to 2026.

“Grand Theft Auto 6 is now set to release on May 26, 2026”

In a post on X, Rockstar Games announced the delay, with a lengthy post detailed the why. “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Tehft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and patience as we work to finish the game.“

“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

New rumors suggest that GTA 6 has been delayed to 2026, but is there any truth to the latest GTA 6 discourse?

The new rumor comes courtesy of ‘Liam GTABase‘ on X (previously Twitter), who took to the platform to say that GTA 6 “has been internally delayed by Rockstar Games and they’re already decided on the early to mid 2026 release window.”

According to Liam, “PC is planned for around 12 – 18 months after the console launch.” He continues that the information has come from “multiple devs across two studios.”

At first glance, the information will rustle some feathers for those waiting for arguably the most anticipated game of all time. Still, the truth is that no one with a reputable track record has corroborated the rumors for the moment and with this being potentially one of the biggest stories of the year, we would expect other journalists and insiders to weigh in.

To us, it seems like a well-educated guess and although it’s likely that Rockstar Games could delay GTA 6 (as they have done with their past two major titles), we doubt that such a decision has been made already.

Currently, Rockstar Games has only confirmed that GTA 6 will be released in 2025. Almost everyone agrees that the date will likely fall around October 2025.

GTA 6 is scheduled to release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC.
