A surprise from Tarsier during Gamescom Opening Night Live as they reveal REANIMAL – a new, co-operative horror game from the team behind Little Nightmares I&II.

As evidenced by the disturbing trailer, Tarsier are bringing back their signature atmosphere with added baaaa-d vibes in this new IP.
I got to enjoy a behind the scenes look at the game with Tarsier, and as someone that adores the Little Nightmares franchise, this new world looks to be just as twisted and unsettling. Tarsier have always nailed making their worlds feel real, despite the horror and the subversion of reality on display.

REANIMAL casts you in the role of two children – a brother and sister, who have to go through this terrifying world to rescue their missing friends and escape to safety. You’ll be able to explore the environment on foot and perhaps more interestingly – by boat. As seen in the trailer, avoid being discovered by some seriously frightening franken-animals – even at sea.

Tarsier’s previous games have had AI characters on hand to assist the player in the journey before, but in REANIMAL, they’re enabling full co-operative play for the first time, with both couch co-op and online play supported. There’s no split-screen though – instead, characters will share the same focused and directed camera.
Regardless of the co-op slant, rest easy – REANIMAL can be enjoyed as a single player experience. Despite the horrors, the developers intimated there is hope here, and adventure too.

As someone who considered Little Nightmares II to be genuinely fantastic, REANIMAL has shot straight to the top of my most anticipated games list. Tarsier have a knack for creating memorable and disturbing experiences, and REANIMAL looks no different.
I’m also intrigued as to how REANIMAL plans to stand out from the upcoming Little Nightmares 3, with Tarsier’s previous franchise now in the hands of a new team of developers.

I am hoping to get some direct hands-on time with the game at Gamescom., and will bring you more of my thoughts on REANIMAL when I can. As always, keep your browser locked on XboxEra.com for more.
