Today, I am very proud to reveal our new Kickstarter, with “Console Wars The Card Game” – a satirical, parody-filled spin on the gaming industry and the competition that’s always existed between video game platforms, publishers and gamers themselves.
How does Console Wars The Card Game work?
In order to win the Console Wars, content is king, and intellectual property ownership of the best games is everything.
In order to emerge victorious, players will need to battle for ownership of 4 full sets of IP across multiple genres, from action-packed first-person shooters, iconic platformers and deep, complex RPGs.

Throughout play, you’ll try to amass as many fans as you can – without them, you have no momentum, and arguably no platform at all – so keeping fans is critical to holding on to your precious gaming franchises.
Will you emerge victorious? Can you survive the relentless ups and downs of the video game industry?
Find out if you have what it takes to truly win the Console Wars by backing us on Kickstarter today!
Creating Console Wars The Card Game

My love and passion for gaming extends far beyond just covering the gaming industry with XboxEra. In fact, one of my favourite pastimes is long weekends playing board and card games with friends, especially since split-screen gaming became increasingly rare.
Last year, I had this crazy idea about creating my own card game – and here we are, months later, after lots of design iteration, playtesting with friends and some gorgeous artwork from the wonderful Predrag – it’s ready to be shared with the world.

Console wars are the hilariously stupid side of the gaming industry. Some folks (and some gaming media platforms!) really lean into them, taking something from the early years of silly playground rivalries among friendship groups into adulthood.
We live in an era where entirely online personas exist that are completely focused on toxic vitriol console warring on behalf of giant gaming corporations.
Remember when gaming was supposed to be about fun?
Regardless, clearly “console warring” is something the entire industry knows about, and actively dislikes. So what if we took all that toxicity; all that online hate, and turned it into something positive and fun? Something where we could all collectively point and laugh at how ridiculous the very concept of console warring is?
And that’s how Console Wars The Card Game came about. Inspired by many of the card games I already play, I wanted to make something even more strategic, vicious and hilarious. As I’ve witnessed with the playtesting over the last year, I truly believe that’s what we’ve created.
Being a small, audience funded independent publication, XboxEra is entirely reliant on our amazing community, and we extend the invitation for you to become a part of that group of legends.
The Kickstarter is now LIVE

Details of our campaign can be found here. We can’t bring this to life without your help, and if there’s one thing we know gamers can do well, it’s rallying round for a good cause!
