As Microsoft stated back in August of last year, the Xbox 360’s Marketplace has been shuttered as of today, the 29th of July. Players who boot up an Xbox 360 now will see just three tabs: the main dashboard, your friends, and console settings. Yes, even the movies and TV shows tab has gotten the boot, but you can still boot up the media player apps with no problems. Well, it’s about as functional as the Xbox 360’s storefront was later in the console’s lifespan—I don’t really recommend you bother using your 360 for that, especially when there are better options out there.
As a reminder, backwards compatible titles can still be purchased on the Xbox.com storefront with no issues. That also includes their DLCs, so a good 600 or so Xbox 360 games will continue to live on digital storefronts. But otherwise, godspeed in hunting down discs and now potentially expired download codes. Of course, your already purchased games and content from the Xbox 360 Marketplace will still work just fine, provided you can sift through a very clunky download history page:
One last storefront remains from that generation now: the PlayStation 3, Vita, and to a lesser extent the PlayStation Portable’s stores still remain up. Long live a tumultuous but great era of gaming.
