It's all in the posture.

I can never stress enough how important posture is, not just to my fellow gamers but honestly anyone that toils away in front of a screen for hours on end. f.lux has saved many an eyeball from late-night work, and a good chair will keep your back from becoming a step ladder. I have this problem all the time when I’m gaming as I like to hunch over like nobody’s business. And for the last two weeks, I’ve had the pleasure of trying out the EWIN Flash XL Series Gaming Chair, which the company let me pick out after reaching out to us.

All my chairs up to this point have been on the smaller end of things, but EWIN’s XL offerings intrigued me. No, I’m not entirely big boned (at least, not yet), but trying out a larger scale chair intrigued me enough that I just had to try it. What I ended up getting in the mail was a very comfortable gaming chair that I even ended up falling asleep in. Accidentally, of course.

This Flash XL gaming chair that came to my humble abode was fairly chonky ‘n wide, weighing at roughly 30 kilograms (my condolences to the FedEx guy, I know your pain). Once I brought it upstairs and manhandled the box open, it was time to put the thing together. The package itself is well-protected and stuffed with plenty of foam—and according to the writing on the box it was dropped a total of “eight times” before being shipped to me, as a point of confidence. To their credit, everything in the box was in working order. A large pamphlet gives you step-by-step instructions on how to put the chair together along with a lot of boxes.

No tools? No problem, the kit has all the stuff you need to put together the EWIN Flash XL Series chairs. You’ll need quite a bit of space as to not lose anything in the process (like I did) but other than that the chair will come together in no time. Well mostly anyway—there was one step that didn’t apply to my chair and I spent a good minute looking around for the red thing that I had to remove. Otherwise, everything was a couple of bolts to screw in, joints to pop into place, and magnets. Actually, one thing I like about this chair is how easy it is to pop something back into place if it falls off, such as the shoulder covers and arm rests. The downside is that they can pop off easily to begin with, but I eventually taught myself to not yank at the arm rests.

Once the chair was up and running, the last two pieces of the puzzle come in the form of two memory foam pillows that come with this chair. The headrest uses a magnet to stick to the topmost part of the chair while the other is more support for your back. These two pillows come in handy as they really help make sitting in this chair comfortable when you’re gaming. This gaming chair can go back pretty far, almost to a fault as I fell asleep while watching a friend play ‘Destiny 2’ (it’s very good at doing that). The pillows were particularly beneficial in helping with that as when I woke up, my neck felt great sleeping on the magnetic pillow. Better yet, the chair’s construction feels good and never once during its setup did I feel like a screw or some random component was going to explode on me.

On top of that, this gaming chair has a lot of room and is great for large and tall peoples. I’m about 170 cm, and my friends hover around 185 or so—each of them tossing nothing but positivity my way as they demoed the EWIN seat. Even my mother, who is shorter by a good 15~ or so centimetres, expressed nothing but praise—and when you have my mother’s approval, you’ve usually got mine.

My battle station marvels at this chair.

The downside I had to this chair is that I’m a little iffy about it when working on my PC. See, I used to own a Knol office chair and I loved that thing because of the way it curved to match my back and posture. The Flash XL is a little more rigid and I found myself hunching over a bit to avoid the headrest at times. When upright the chair works best without the included pillows, but if you pull back to start gaming it’s back to comfort city. However,I did get used to it over the last two weeks and the Flash XL has become my preferred chair at the desk thanks to the comfortable bottom side. And after some adjustments to my keyboard’s height, I’m back to typing as I always have.

At its price point, the EWIN Flash XL Series gaming chair is worth it, especially if you’ve a large screen and plan on gaming for hours on end. The pillows really help you stay comfy and the seat accommodates tall and larger folks—but even people shorter than 5 foot 7 will have no issues fitting snuggly into this seat. The company’s customer service is fantastic and they were quick to respond when I reached out about a component that I thought I was missing. EWIN was more than happy to offer to ship the part to me right away, but I realised my gaffe and let them know there was no need. Organised chaos will only get you so far in life, I suppose.

You can purchase the EWIN Flash XL Series and all of their gaming chairs directly from the company’s website. The Flash XL comes in multiple variations and they also have different series of chairs altogether. The one I reviewed specifically was this unit and with the promo code “XboxEra” you’ll be able to get 20% off of any order, including their gaming desks. Free shipping is available across the United States except for Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Work on that posture and game on.
