Xbox has confirmed that Game Pass tiers and price changes are coming this September for current users and tomorrow July 10th for new ones.

game pass changes

Jez Corden of Windows Central has just confirmed that Microsoft will be changing the tiers of Xbox Game Pass and the pricing this upcoming September if you are a current subscriber or tomorrow, July 10th, if you are a new one. The article can be found HERE and the changes are as follows:

  • Xbox Game Pass console will end, those subbed by September 12th will be grandfathered in but can only stack up to 13 months of subscription time.
  • Xbox Game Pass Core will remain at $9.99 a month but will increase from $49.99 annually to $74.99 in the US.
  • Xbox Game Pass Standard is a new tier of the service that is $14.99 a month. It will offer multiplayer like Core as well as a Vault of Game Pass titles.
  • Game Pass for PC will remain the same service with Day One games, the Vault of older titles, and EA Play. It will increase to $11.99 a month in the US
  • Game Pass Ultimate will remain the same service with Day One games, PC titles, a vault on console & PC, Cloud gaming, and EA Play access. The price will increase $3 to $19.99 a month in the US.

Regional pricing for all tiers will be located at the bottom of this article. The major change is the shuttering of Game Pass for console. Instead Game Pass Core is now actually a core part of each console tier and the new Standard tier gives you a vault of games but no day one releases. What that vault will be and when new games may be added to it has not been provided as of yet.

If you are currently a member of Game Pass for Console you will be allowed to keep the subscription though you will only be able to stack the service up to a max of 13 months at a time, compared to the 36 month stacking you can do now.

Here is a chart with all of the regional pricing for the upcoming changes in September:

Are you one of the nearly 80% of users already subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate? If not will this change make you upgrade or is the price increase too great? Sound off in the comments below and let us know what you think.

Discussion:

  1. I wonder how much the monthly points for it will increase? Since I’m using the auto redeem option.

I guess I should also consider unsubbing every couple of months.

  2. Just one more “Fuck you” from MS to the Xbox consoles.

    The new tier is… blegh.

The removal of Xbox Game Pass Console sucks, was great value for those who weren’t interested on playing online.

20$ for GPU isn’t a bad deal, but it’s not cheap stuff anymore, good for some, not so much for others, if it included stuff like expansions it’d be nice

Surprisingly the PC Gamepass remains the best deal, even if it got a price increase, for 12$ you get GP and EA Play, i guess it’s still on growth mode and sooner than later it’ll get exclusive price increases without affecting the console tiers.

  3. Yeah, these changes suck and pretty much driving away console users. It is what it is, but I don’t understand all of these changes. PC gamepass seems like a solid deal

  4. I already have Ultimate and play on both PC and console. A price increase is not something I’m thrilled about but I’m not upset about it either, it’s just the way of the world. Prices for stuff go up over time. :man_shrugging:

  5. So reading more on it and currently console game pass users will retain all of the current perks. But all future users will not get day one anymore, I do wonder if that includes day one 3rd party games or just first party?

I can definitely people not consider Xbox at all with the change for new console users. Specifically because ultimate could be too expensive and console won’t give you first party games day one, core is just for people that want to play online and it could literally go away if Microsoft makes Xbox live not be a requirement for online play on non F2P games.

  6. Do we know how many of them are using the gold trick ? I think that’s the tricky part to gauge because I feel that number will decline once the trick is blocked

  7. Avatar for Zip Zip says:

So it looks like 23 cad is about 16.87 usd. Are they just trying to adjust to make it equivalent? The official price is 16.99 in the US even if you can get it for less
