Poppy’s Playtime Chapter 1: A Tight Squeeze is coming to Xbox, soon.

Originally released in 2021, Poppy’s Playtime is a horror game with a big following in gaming’s younger audience. A jump-scare-focused streamer’s delight, you play as a former employee of a toy factory. Armed with a pair of giant floppy hands, you solve puzzles and run away from monsters. The game had some controversy with its dark themes and happy graphics leading to that younger demographic.
The developers also sold an NFT for a bit, got yelled at a lot online, and gave the proceeds to charity. This release will include the “base” game, which is chapter one. There have been three chapters in total released so far, with one more planned. All chapters after the first are an extra DLC purchase to access. It will release on Xbox on July 12th and retails for $5 US.

The game describes itself as:
“You must stay alive in this horror/puzzle adventure. Try to survive the vengeful toys waiting for you in the abandoned toy factory. Use your GrabPack to hack electrical circuits or nab anything from afar. Explore the mysterious facility… and don’t get caught.”
Having played the first three chapters myself years ago on PC, it’s not too bad. While the game relies heavily on jump scares it can be legitimately frightening at times. There is a creepy overall vibe and the production values are high enough to make it feel well worth the initial $5 price tag. I did get frustrated severely in the latest chapter. The timing needed for certain puzzles was not supported by the control schemed, leading to unnecessary frustrations.
