Crazy Taxi Reboot is planned to be a “Massively Multiplayer Driving Game”

New details and glimpses of the reboot shown in video

Sega have published a new recruitment video for their upcoming reboot of the Crazy Taxi series, and you may be surprised (or not so surprised, considering the gaming industry!) that this reboot is planned as a “Massively Multiplayer Driving Game” instead of a full single player experience.

This new iteration of Crazy Taxi was announced at The Game Awards in 2023, as part of of a larger announcement of 5 new entries in classic franchises. The other 4 in question being Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Golden Axe and of course, Jet Set Radio (which also might be getting a remake of the original, though this is unconfirmed).

The Crazy Taxi reboot is being created by Sapporo Studio, which has assisted in the development of a number of Sega’s titles since it was founded back in 2021.

The video has the original director of Crazy Taxi – Kenji Kanno – talking about the team having to adjust from a single player experience to one centred around being an online, “massively multiplayer driving game”, which the team admitted has been difficult, but that great progress is being made.

The video is in Japanese, but has some snippets of gameplay for those eager to learn more about this most anticipated reboot.
