Originally put out in a tweet thread by noted leaker DuskGolem and then corroborated by IGN Resident Evil Zero & Code Veronica remakes are supposedly coming
In a four-tweet thread DuskGolem, a noted Twitter Capcom leaker, stated:
- Resident Evil 9 (not announced officially) announcement has been delayed past this summer
- Resident Evil 1 remake rumors are untrue
- Resident Evil 5 is also not being remade as of now
- Resident Evil 9 has been pushed back internally to late 2025 or early 2026
- Remakes of RE Zero and Code Veronica are both in development
This morning IGN corroborated DuskGolem’s leak on the final point, saying that Zero and CV are indeed actively in development for remakes.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica was a Dreamcast title released in 2000. It was the fourth mainline entry in the franchise and the first to skip launching exclusively on PlayStation. You played as siblings Chris and Claire Redfield and the Dreamcast’s hardware was used to shift the series into three-dimensions. Gone were the pre-rendered backgrounds of the first three entries in the series.
Resident Evil Zero was a prequel to the first title, where you played as Billy Coen and Rebecca Chambers. A remaster was released back in 2016, titled Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster. Last year’s Resident Evil 4 Remake was a massive success, already breaking 7 million copies sold after releasing to rave reviews.

Aww was hoping Resident Evil 1 would be remade lol - it’s the only one I’ve played I think, I remember I was a kid and I reached the bit in the corridor where the dogs jump through the windows and was “nope”.

Don’t really trust Dusk or IGN when it comes to rumours, but I would love a CV remake.

Surprised it took this long for Code Veronica to get a remaster as it’s a real gem! Probably one of the most deserving games in the series. At least it had already been released outside of the Dreamcast for people to enjoy.
Dusk is pretty reliable when it comes to RE leaks
CVX remake is going to change a lot for sure though, especially story wise, Steve being close to sexual assault and the cross dressing stuff will be changed heavily

If there is one RE game that truly needed a remake it is Code Veronica. So much they could improve on with that game. Cool if true.
