Accessory maker ByoWave and Microsoft last week announced a new accessibility controller that is set to come to the market later this year. Dubbed the ‘Proteus Controller’, this all-in-one Kit allows gamers to build their own way to play. The unique modular video game controller kit features innovative ‘snap and play’ parts that easily connect together and comes with everything that gamers need to play their favorite Xbox and PC games right out of the box.
With this one kit, players can build over 100 million traditional and custom configuration and LED lighting variations. Pre-orders are available at $255 on discount right now for early bird buyers, with $268 and $284 USD price points available as stock runs out.

Essentially with the Proteus Controller, you can quite literally make your own controller that works with how you play. An incredibly creative solution from the team of ten in Galway. Brandon Blacoe, CEO of ByoWave, explains in the company’s latest blog post about why the crew and the controller came together:
“The spark for our mission ignited when Brandon reunited with his childhood friend, Eibhlin (Evelyn), during the Global Game Jam 2020 in Dublin. It was during this reunion Eibhlin told Brandon about her disability, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and how it affected her ability to use standard controllers. Eibhlin was struggling to find a controller that let her play with just one hand in a way that worked best for her. Brandon and Eibhlin used to play games together all the time as kids (Shrek 2 on the PS2 was their go-to) and when Brandon learned about her struggles with playing games, he thought of his own experiences of gaming, and how important it was to his lift and he took it upon himself to try and find a solution. Brandon started doing more research and found 100s of other people through Reddit who were also struggling and began working on a solution.”
The Proteus Controller is the company’s first unit and, licensed by and for Xbox, this little kit will work on PCs and Xbox consoles alike with no issue. ByoWave has also heard feedback and will be looking into offering kit alternatives at lower price points.
More accessibility options are always welcome in the gaming sphere and Microsoft has more updates planned for their games and hardware so that everyone can get in on the action.
