It has only been 6 months since Xbox officially welcomed ABK into the fold, and if rumors are to be believed, the next iteration in the Call of Duty franchise should be announced at Xbox’s annual summer showcase.
According to Tom Warren of The Verge, the next Xbox showcase is currently scheduled to take place on June 9th. This lines up with how Xbox has scheduled its previous showcases, which have always tended to take place during the second week of June. Warren goes on to mention that he has heard of several games that will be announced at the showcase, including the upcoming Call of Duty game that would subsequently release later this year.
The rumored Call of Duty game for release later this year should be developed by Treyarch as it is their turn to release a game as part of the trifecta that also includes Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games. This years Call of Duty game has not yet been announced officially, and has neither yet been confirmed to be coming to Game Pass, but with Xbox doubling down on their commitment to bringing all of their first party games to the service, this is all but inevitable.
Call of Duty appearing on Xbox’s stage was inevitable after the IP joined the companies growing stable of huge franchises, but after years of ABK patterning with Playstation and often appearing on their stage, it will be nice to finally see the franchise back on the green team. Call of Duty 2024 will join big games like Avowed, Hellblade II, Indiana Jones, and more to make up a strong year of first-party releases from Xbox. After a very slow start to the year after a big 2023, it seems like the next 8 months of Xbox will include nonstop news drops and more importantly long awaited game releases.
