Obsidian CEO says he would love to make another Fallout game, would be “surprised” if it is not on list of games to make after current projects

It has been an open secret for a while that Obsidian wants to make another Fallout game although scheduling and opportunities have made it difficult for this to happen. Speaking to video game website Dualshockers, Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart confirmed that he wants the studio to make another Fallout game, but timing is the issue. Obsidian has a lot of games in development right now, but Urquhart makes it clear Fallout will be on the list of games they want to make after their current slate is cleared.

“At some point we’ll start looking into what those next games are going to be, and I would be surprised if Fallout is not on that list”. Urquhart goes on to say that “if we were to do Fallout, it has to tie in with what Bethesda is doing with Fallout and a lot of other things, but I would always personally say my hope is that before I ride off into the sunset, I’d love to make another Fallout game.”

It seems that a new Fallout game by Obsidian is all but assured to happen, the only question really is when. They have two massive projects in development in Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 and also have other teams making smaller games.

Bethesda Game Studios is still the steward of the franchise and ultimately decides what happens with it. They have a full plate as well and are not expected to make a new Fallout for a long time. They are currently finishing development on Starfield and are planning to work on The Elder Scrolls VI after that.

It seems likely with all this being said that a new Fallout game isn’t releasing anytime soon. Unless new developments arise and an unknown studio begins work on a new entry in this beloved franchise, we may be waiting a while for something new out of this long running post apocalyptic series.
