Why hello again, everyone. Jesse here, and after polling 14 members of the site’s staff we have our top 10 games of 2022! For a year with “no games” there certainly was a massive variety in those listed here. Every console and PC were eligible for this list, and plenty of Nintendo and Sony exclusives just barely missed the cut. We reviewed every game on this list so I’ll put our review blurb under each one. We’ll start with number ten:

#10 – Rogue Legacy 2

Rogue Legacy 2 is excellent in every conceivable metric. The gameplay is fast, tight, and feels fair. It’s simplistic but beautiful graphically. The music is excellent, and the story is intriguing but not in the way. At $25 US this is something every fan of the genre either new or old should give a try. It takes every positive from the solid first game and improves upon it while sanding away many of its rough edges.

#9 – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

As finer an example of “AAA” Hollywood gaming spectacle as ever there was – full of incredible visuals and set-pieces with a tonne of gameplay variety and only a few moments that fall flat. It can’t help but occasionally feel to be a greatest hits collection of previous Call of Duty moments at times, despite the earnest and well intentioned efforts to mix things up a bit, and that’s okay. For fans of the series, they’ll be more than satisfied.

#7 Deathloop (A two-way tie)

Deathloop is the best game Arkane has ever made, which is saying something. It is a brilliant culmination of their learnings over the years, and I absolutely love it. World-class writing, world-building, and story are matched with fun gameplay, great performance, and one of the smartest game worlds I’ve ever seen. It’s finally out on Xbox and it’s on Game Pass so do yourself a favor and play this near-masterpiece.

#7 – Overwatch 2 (A two-way tie)

Overwatch 2 is a rebirth for one of my favorite games of the past generation. Featuring great new heroes, gorgeous and well-balanced new maps, a new mode in Push that I’ve greatly enjoyed, and a progression system that feels about the same as most free-to-play titles it’s an easy recommendation for both new and returning players alike. Add in an upcoming PVE co-op mode next year and I can see myself easily putting another one or two thousand hours into this title over the coming few years.

#6 – Halo Infinite (Post-Forge Update)

*We have not reviewed the Forge mode so the campaign will have to do!
Halo Infinite has had a rough 1st year on the live service aspect of the game. The campaign is still one of my favorites, but Forge has breathed an incredible new life into the multiplayer. The only limit so far seems to be player’s imaginations, and the Winter Update came out of nowhere with a custom game’s browser. It was a rare W for the team at 343, and one that indicates they may finally be on the right path for their live service.

#5 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

Between the co-op, collectibles, challenges, achievements and upgrades, there’s more reasons to keep going back to Shredder’s Revenge than probably any other game in the genre has ever provided. This is all on top of fun and fantastic combat and a nostalgia overload that most should love. But even those who weren’t necessarily fans of the Ninja Turtles, still have a great scrolling beat ’em up to make their way through.

#4 – TUNIC

TUNIC is both an incredible and incredibly frustrating title. The combat lets down what otherwise is a masterpiece. If you can look past it or feel fine using the accessibility options it is worth checking out. Gorgeous graphics, incredible music, and intriguing lore just may be enough to carry you through, and being available day one on Game Pass on PC and console certainly doesn’t hurt either.

#3 – Immortality

Once this game has been out for a while, I might never stop talking about it. It is a triumph in the FMV game genre. One that elevates it to heights I could have never imagined for the video game medium. It’s releasing directly into Game Pass, so there is no reason you shouldn’t at least give it a try. This is one of the, if not the best gaming experiences of my lifetime.

#2 – Vampire Survivors

The game is so popular it garnered millions of sales on Steam alone and it spawned dozens and dozens of clones, some of which really high quality too. I personally tried over thirty of such clones myself. And while they may beat Poncle’s creation in a few individual aspects (usually the graphics at least), Vampire Survivors remains firmly at the top of the so-called “bullet heaven” genre, thanks to a highly addictive gameplay, a masterfully crafted progression and an insane amount of content and variety – all at a ridiculously low price and even part of Xbox Game Pass and Game Pass PC. You really have no excuses: go try Vampire Survivors as soon as possible, as it’d undoubtedly one of the best and most innovative games of 2022.

#1 – Elden Ring

Elden Ring is a masterpiece of a title, with only a few minor issues. The co-op summon system is a pain, and mounted combat doesn’t always feel the best. Other than that this game is staggeringly good in every single area. It does for open-world games what people claimed Breath of the Wild did. Every part of the experience is elevated by an insane attention to detail. Few games have ever left me feeling so enthralled for the entirety of my playtime. Whether you’re going it solo or with a friend Elden Ring is one guaranteed to be one hell of a time.
