Phil Spencer has announced via Twitter that Microsoft has entered an arrangement with long-time partner/rival Nintendo to bring Call of Duty back to Nintendo consoles. Phil has also stated that Microsoft intends to keep Call of Duty on Steam after the merger has been finalized. Call of Duty hasn’t been on a Nintendo console since 2013’s Call of Duty Ghosts back on the good ol’ Wii U.
It’s been a long road for the finalization of the Activision-Blizzard merger, and this news shows the confidence that Microsoft has in making sure the merger is smooth and successful. Phil doesn’t specify that the series would be coming to Switch specifically however, nor which Call of Duty titles would be coming (Like COD Mobile, as it’s much easier to run than something like Warzone 2.0). Phil provided this comment to the Washington Post when discussing the possibility of the Switch being able to run Call of Duty: “Minecraft and Call of Duty are different games. But from how you get games onto Nintendo, how you run a development team that is targeting multiple platforms, that’s experience we have.”
UPDATE: In a follow-up tweet by Brad Smith, President of Microsoft, he states that “Any day Sony wants to sit down and talk, we’ll be happy to hammer out a 10-year deal for PlayStation as well.”, confirming that Sony has still not accepted a deal from Microsoft to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation consoles.
