Developer RGG Studio and publisher SEGA have announced that their latest entry in the Like a Dragon/Yakuza series, ‘Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name’, will be coming to Xbox console on the 9th of November. Featuring the staggering and powerful combat from the Yakuza games of yore, this action-adventure brawler comes bearing Kazuma Kiryu as the main protagonist as he comes out of hiding after faking his own death.

Just out of curiosity I want to poll the Xbox Yakuza fans
Vote in the poll.(I loved the English voice track and am hoping Sega will continue making an English version)
I didn’t play Like A Dragon 7 because it’s turn based and im done with turn based. I have played and completed Yakuza Zero, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 as well as Judgment and Lost Judgment. I’m looking forward to this one but I am hoping there’s something new in regards to the combat. Wish they would make it counter based like Sleeping Dogs. That would be awesome. As it stands, it just looks like more Yakuza. Hoping for English voice overs as I know the story and characters will be great but I don’t want to have to read the entire game like I did with the three Yakuza games I completed.

I played 7 in Japanese. I did try it in English, which was decent, but the Japanese voices suit the characters much better.
Admittedly I stuck with Japanese voices mainly because i’ve grown accustomed to it from all the other games to the point that as odd as it sounds it would always feel weird to suddenly hear the likes of Kiryu, Majima, etc speaking in English with English voices, though i have heard a lot of praise for the English voice dub in Yakuza 7.
I loved the trailer for this though. I don’t mind Ichiban and i was ready to accept Kiryu’s time was done but i’d be lying if i said i wasn’t happy to see him back. Playing Ishin made me realise how much i miss him as a lead character as well and his more brawling style of gameplay. I’m very much expecting a typical Yakuza affair with a story with ridiculous plot twists and of course some amazing characters.
I am curious what has made them almost turn back to Kiryu with this and him being in 8 to some degree. Ichiban was well received and they made it clear they felt Kiryu’s story was done .
I did both tbh. I thought the English cast was very good, but there are scenes that are much better with Japanese cast. However, with a Kiryu focused game it will be played in Japanese
Always in the original language, specially after so many games played in Japanese.
I hope this never happens. Keep Yakuza as Yakuza, the combat system is awesome.
Combat system is good but for me, after five games, im just tired of it.
I hear that sentiment a lot online, but I suspect it’s actually the less popular opinion which is why I started the poll and was curious. I’m wondering if Sega has done research because I will be disappointed if they don’t do an English version like they did on Yakuza 7.
I suspect your guess is correct, but I also think the people most likely to listen to the original audio are also the most likely to be on a site like this: enthusiasts. So not sure you will get a good sample of players here who are representative.
It’s like anime, dubs are the most popular but if you go into any group of ‘real’ anime fans they’ll tell you that dubs are trash lol.
That said, Yakuza has been as much about feeling like I’m Japan for me than anything else, so playing it with a dub would just completely ruin the immersion for me. Don’t care how well done it is.
