Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life can be experienced solo and mostly in private

Today Rare held their Sea of Thieves: A PIrate’s Life Showcase. During this 40 minute showcase the team back in Twycross, United Kingdom, have revealed more information on the upcoming update launching with Season 3 of Sea of Thieves.

First, the most asked question whenever Sea of Thieves comes up. Yes, you can play A Pirate’s Life solo. And yes, you can, mostly, play it without being disturbed by others. This is how it works:

Sea of Thieves is a shared world multiplayer game, so whenever you are in the main world you can come across other crews of real players. But, the Tall Tales (which are the story campaigns in Sea of Thieves) for this new Pirates of the Caribbean update are instanced. This means you won’t come across any other players when participating in the main questline. So only getting to a quest will be done in a shared world, while the other aspects are in private lobbies, so to speak.

Meanwhile for players without a crew Rare has also made some improvements. When doing the A Pirate’s Life Tall Tales you’ll occasionally have Jack Sparrow as your AI companion on your ship. He can man the cannons while you sail, making life just that little easier for you.

So, what’s actually in the update you say? Well, quite a lot.

The new update contains five new Tall Tale campaigns, three new enemy types, two new worlds to travel to and a lot of Pirates of the Caribbean cosmetics. The Sea of Thieves community has been craving for new enemy types, so the new content update coming June 22nd will be a breeze of fresh air in the Sea of Thieves world.

The new enemies are sirens, ghost pirates and ocean crawlers. The new worlds are the Sea of the Damned and the Sunken Kingdom. The latter one is where you’ll find the sirens at first. But good news, all new enemy types will show up in the regular Sea of Thieves experience too.

Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life is coming to Xbox Game Pass on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows 10 on June 22nd. It will also be available on Steam. And will be free to all Sea of Thieves players.
