Everyone expected the launch of Gears 5 to be big. But it turns out Gears 5 has broken records for Microsoft. Over 3 million people have played the game in its opening weekend. More than double the amount of people have played Gears 5 in the games opening week compared to Gears of War 4. This includes the four days which were only available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and the Ultimate edition players.
Meanwhile, Gears 5 was also the best selling Xbox Game Studios game on Steam, while nearly tripling the performance of Gears of War 4 on PC.
Gears 5 was the most played Xbox game, the first game from Microsoft to do this since Halo 4 in 2012.
