Everwild completely rebooted and now targeting a 2024 release – Gregg Mayles new creative director

In a report by VGC’s Andy Robinson and earlier comments by Jeff Grubb it is now confirmed Gregg Mayles is the new creative director for Everwild. But besides that, sources have told Robinson and Grubb that Everwild has been rebooted and is targeting a 2024 release.

Last year the creative director on Everwild, Simon Woodroffe, left Rare. The development studio has now confirmed Gregg Mayles has been added to the team. Mayles is the most senior creative at Rare, responsible for games such as Donkey Kong Country, Banjo-Kazooie, Viva Piñata and Sea of Thieves.

”Gregg Mayles joined us, late last year as Creative Director, and the team has never been stronger. Since showing the world our Eternals trailer, we have been making progress on all aspects of Everwild.

The team continues to work hard to realise our vision and to bring the magic of nature in Everwild to life for players around the world.”

Louise O’Connor, executive producer Everwild

Everwild has been shown twice to the public, with the first reveal at X019 almost two years ago and the second reveal at the 2020 Xbox Games Showcase. In both occassions no gameplay was shown, nor was further information on the title given. Rumours are the game was a third-person adventure game with god game aspects. It remains to be seen how much of the original ideas for Everwild remain after this reboot.
