Microsoft is trending right now, and not because of positive news. Microsoft has today announced they are increasing the price of Xbox Live Gold. We’ll have an opinion piece and YouTube video about this going up today, but here’s the summary of todays Xbox Live Gold news.
Microsoft has increased the price of Gold membership by $1 for 1-month subscriptions, making it $10.99. Three month subscriptions get a $5 price hike to $29.99 and 6-month subscriptions now cost $59.99. This means a year of Xbox Live Gold now costs $119,99. The price of Xbox Game Pass Utlimate, which includes Xbox Live Gold, has not increased. This means Xbox Live Gold is only $4 cheaper than Game Pass Ultimate.
From Xbox Wire:
- If you’re an existing online 12-month or 6-month Xbox Live Gold member, there’s no price change. If you choose to renew your membership, it will renew at yourcurrent price.
- The price of a 1-month Gold membership is increasing $1 USD and the price of a 3-month membership is increasing $5 USD or the equivalent amount in your local market.
- If you’d like to upgrade your Gold membership to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate your remaining Gold time will also convert directly to Ultimate (up to 36 months). For example, if you have 11 months of Xbox Live Gold now, and you upgrade to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, those 11 months convert to 11 months of Ultimate at no additional cost.
As a band-aid of sorts, Microsoft has announced the new Games with Gold for February. These are:
- Gears 5
- Resident Evil
- Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition
- Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb
- Lost Planet 2
