Online services for Halo games on Xbox 360 will go offline in December 2021

343 recently announced that all online services for Halo games on the Xbox 360 will go offline in December 2021. This means players will be unable to play matchmaking on Halo games on 360 that support online play, as well as some other social features.

This news isn’t shocking, but it is bitter sweet and truly feels like the end of an era. The Xbox 360 is arguably the best generation of online Halo. The crown jewel being Halo 3, which is one of the greatest online experiences I have ever been apart of.

There were many, many nights spent playing Halo 3 multiplayer and the memories created during those years will stay with me. Other games like Halo: Reach, Halo 4, and other games will be impacted as well.

Luckily we do have The Master Chief Collection which is a collection of Halo Combat Evolved through Halo 4, and is the best version of any of these experiences.

By the time these games are officially taken offline, we will have Halo Infinite (barring another delay) as well as The Master Chief Collection which sees constant updates.

So while we will have a bright future of Halo ahead, it is sad to see the legacy content fade away. The 360 couldn’t be supported forever, but there will always be the memories of the times we had.
