E3 2023 has been canceled

What is Dead May Never Die

E3 2023 has been canceled according to IGN’s Rebekah Valentine. Valentine notes in her article that “Two sources have confirmed to IGN that the organization announced the cancellation via an email sent out to its members today. The email said that while E3 “remains a beloved event and brand” that the 2023 version “simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry.”

XboxEra also received news of the events cancelation via email following the report from IGN.

This news should not be a shock to anyone as the event has failed to launch multiple times since the events’ first cancelation in 2020 during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ESA, who runs the event, has failed to garner major publisher interest as many have opted to hold their own events throughout the year. Xbox, for example, plans to hold their own event alongside a Starfield deep dive on June 11th.

It remains to be seen if this is the final nail in the coffin for the event, but it’s hard to see E3 truly ever returning to what it once was if it returns at all.
