The Activision-Blizzard fourth quarter and 2021 financial results have been released, and within the report was a comment from the oft despised CEO Bobby Kotick.
Kotick comments on how Microsoft will bring Activision-Blizzard forward once the acquistion has completed, saying “with Microsoft’s scale and resources, we will be better equipped to grow existing franchises, launch new potential franchises and unlock the rich library of games we have assembled over 40 years”.
This comment reflects what many have already assumed will happen once the acquistion is complete. Hopefully under Microsoft the talented teams under Activision-Blizzard will be able to flex their creative muscles and work on the games they want to, instead of being forced onto the treadmill of yearly Call of Duty releases as they were under Kotick.
The future of Xbox and Activision-Blizzard will most likely occur without the aforementioned Bobby Kotick, as he is expected to leave the company once the merger closes.
