Minecraft Dungeons will have its own launcher on PC

This week we reported on the fact that the game will not support cross-play at launch. It seems the FAQ on their website keeps giving small nuggets of information. As today we found out the game will not be included in the already existing Minecraft launcher – or Steam – but will have its own launcher. You can read their FAQ answer below:

WHY DOES MINECRAFT DUNGEONS HAVE ITS OWN LAUNCHER?

Unfortunately, you can’t start Minecraft Dungeons directly from the Minecraft Launcher because Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft Dungeons use different account systems.

Minecraft Dungeons is using Microsoft Accounts and Minecraft Java Edition is using Mojang accounts. We have twisted and turned many options to give our players the right experience and decided that a good temporary option is to have one dedicated launcher per game. Therefore, you need the Minecraft Dungeons Launcher to be able to play the game.

Minecraft is still planned for April 2020. But we haven’t received an actual release date as of yet. And April is getting very close. The game is coming out for PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Switch. And of course coming to Xbox Game Pass.
