After a lot of speculation and rumour surrounding Goldeneye recently, we could see a remaster announced in the next couple of weeks. According to VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, he believes that Microsoft will reveal the revival rather than the original publisher Nintendo. Speaking on his popular show Giant Bomb show Grubbsnax we heard that this could be sooner than some may think.
Grubb said: “I think that Microsoft is going to be the one to announce that first.” He added: “I think this game is probably coming pretty soon, I’m thinking next couple of weeks.”
After some Rare developers were spotted unlocking Xbox achievements for Goldeneye 007 back in January, this suggests that a remaster of the originally cancelled Xbox 360 version could finally see the light of day and be officially released on modern consoles.
With this year marking the 60th Anniversary of the James Bond franchise, it would make sense that the legality issues surrounding games of the past have been overcome to celebrate this landmark in video game format.
It was confirmed last year that a remaster of the Nintendo 64 classic for Xbox 360 had been cancelled due to licencing and legality issues along with miscommunication and a passionate young team who strived to create the game despite a deal never being signed. Could we be about to see the project come to fruition, only time will tell?
