Microsoft and Activision Blizzard extend merger agreement deadline.

Following a quiet evening of pure speculation, it’s official. Microsoft and Activision have agreed to extend the merger agreement through to October 18th, 2023.

Microsoft’s President, Brad Smith has advised this new timeframe is designed to “provide ample time to work through the final regulatory issues.” The agreement has been adjusted however, with a higher termination fee of $3.5 Billon now in place, should Microsoft or Activision walk away from the deal.

Despite many fans and pundits speculating that Microsoft would close over the CMA, this should be that theory well and truly to bed. The CMA are now working on their “final order” (not a Star Wars reference) which they plan to have issued by August 29th.
