Earlier this morning, Inti Creates, the developer behind the upcoming remaster of the original Gal*Gun, has announced that the planned Xbox One version of the game will no longer be released. The announcement cited that “…after productive discussion with Microsoft, that we would be unable to ensure of experience across all platforms.” As such, the company will be re-focusing efforts on the PC and Nintendo Switch versions of the game. Inti Creates will continue to work with Microsoft on other PQube releases going forward..
This is quite unfortunate for the developer, Microsoft, and Xbox fans who were looking forward to the game. Cancelled ports of games are nothing new but they are certainly rare enough to garner interest. This also raises the question of whether or not the Xbox platform is really an artist and developer-friendly environment.
Gal*Gun Returns launches in the West on February 12, 2021 on PC and Nintendo Switch.
