Six Xbox Game Studios games nominated at The Game Awards – none for The Game of the Year

Each year Geoff Keighley hosts The Game Awards and each year it gets bigger and bigger. Last year Microsoft revealed the name and look of the Xbox Series X at the show, besides a trailer for Segua’s Saga: Hellblade II.

Today Keighley and his team revealed the nominees for this years Game of the Year. The nominees for Game of the Year are:

  • Doom Eternal (Bethesda/id Software)
  • Final FAntasy VII Remake (Square Enix)
  • Ghost of Tsushima (Sony Interactive Entertainment/Sucker Punch)
  • Hades (Supergiant Games)
  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo)
  • The Last of Us Part II (Sony Interactive Entertainment/Naughty Dog)

So, no Xbox Game Studios nominations for the main award. But, there were plenty of other nominations for Microsoft published titles.

Best Art Direction

  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Xbox Game Studios/Moon Studios)

Best Score and Music

  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Xbox Game Studios/Moon Studios)

Best Action Adventure

  • Ori and the Will of the Wisps (Xbox Game Studios/Moon Studios)

Games For Impact

  • Tell Me Why (Xbox Game Studios/Dontnod Entertainment)

Innovation in accessibility

  • Grounded (Xbox Game Studios/Obsidian Entertainment)

Best Family

  • Minecraft Dungeons (Xbox Game Studios/Mojang Studios/Double Eleven)

Best Sim/Strategy

  • Gears Tactics (Xbox Game Studios/Splash Damage/The Coalition)
  • Microsoft Flight Simulator (Xbox Game Studios/Asobo)

Besides this Doom Eternal, created by id Software which Microsoft has the intention to acquire, has been nominated for Game of the Year, Best Action, Best Score and Music and Best Audio Design. Meanwhile, Xbox Game Studio inXile’s Wasteland 3 has been nominated for best RPG. This game was published by Deep Silver.
