Speed has been a big selling point for Xbox and Playstation this generation. We have been sold on the idea of the near elimination of loading screens which sounds great. We already have examples early on in the generation, like the quick loading times in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Backwards Compatible games, and many more.
Quick Resume, which is currently only available on the Xbox Series X|S, allows you to suspend multiple games at once and pick them up in a matter of seconds. This means you can switch from one game to another and return to the original game wherever you left off in roughly 4-5 seconds. You can do this for multiple games as well, meaning you will rarely see an initial load for games in your rotation. This comes in handy if you are someone who juggles multiple games at once, or wants to hop into a quick multiplayer game without having to completely reload your previous game.
It works off of Xbox’s instant on feature, and also works off of a cold boot. Xbox will seemingly hold your spot in the game like a bookmark and stay there for a long time. It is a great quality of life improvement and has been the best feature I have found so far from the next generation of consoles.
There have been a few occasions where the feature doesn’t work as planned, and a select few games are not supported as of yet. But for the most part it has simply worked and has been a feature I use quite often.
It is possible as time goes on that these games begin to load so fast that quick resume become a bit obsolete. But for now, saving time with quick resume is a nice luxury that has made my experience on Xbox much better.
