Mojang has announced that Minecraft users playing the Java version of the game will require a Microsoft account soon.
The Swedish studio is telling users to switch from Mojang accounts to Microsoft accounts for the following reasons:
- Increased security for your account with two-factor authentication. In other words, it’s harder for someone to access your account without your permission.
- All your PC Minecraft games will be connected to the same account. Currently, that’s Minecraft and Minecraft Dungeons, but who knows what we’ll do next?
- Improved parental controls to help keep kids safe when playing online.
- Chat and invitation blocking.
New Minecraft Java players will have to sign up with a Microsoft account this fall. Existing users will have time to move their accounts untill early 2021.
