Mixer is being shut down today

Microsoft will be shutting down the streaming platform Mixer today. It’s unclear when the website is being taken down, but it seems we’re in the last hours or even minutes of the platform.

Mixer was founded in 2016 as Beam, by Matt Salsamendi and James Bohm. Less than a year later, on August 2016, Microsoft announced they had acquired Beam. Since then the platform started growing and showing signs of potential. But, after a few years of growth the platform didn’t meet expectations. In 2019 Microsoft contracted multiple big streamers to the platform such as Ninja and Shroud, but this didn’t bring the expected growth for the platform.

Last month, Microsoft announced shutting down the platform. Mixer partners had the opportunity to get a contract with Facebook Gaming, though many streamers have chosen to go to Twitch or YouTube Gaming instead.
