According to a recent report from The Information, Microsoft is ‘kicking the tires’ and is interested in bidding for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
Windows Central shared some news several weeks ago that AT&T were looking to apparently sell off the division. Microsoft have been on a bit of acquisition spree of late in an effort to seriously bolster their first party studios.
After purchasing Obsidian Entertainment, Playground Games, Undead Labs, Compulsion Games, Ninja Theory and more, it felt they might move in to more of an execution mode rather than adding more to their plate.
Still it’s hard to say no to an opportunity to acquire some serious developer talent – currently, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment consists of the following developers:
- Avalanche Software
- Monolith Productions
- NetherRealm Studios
- RockSteady Studios
- TT Games
- WB Games Boston
- WB Games Montreal
- WB Games New York
- WB Games San Deigo
- WB Games San Francisco
Now despite the fact that any sort of deal would be unlikely to include licenses like Harry Potter or Batman, it would include Mortal Kombat. And if Xbox want to continue to push unique, exclusive content to Game Pass, they need all the developers they can get. It will be interesting to see what happens next. They’re not alone in the bid, as apparently EA, Take Two and Activision are also interested.
