French Website Xboxygen spoke with Ina Gelbert, Director of Xbox France in an exclusive interview which is soon to be released, we have translated a snippet of the interview below which shows that X-Box Series X is in production and there are no significant delays that will affect the 2020 launch plan.
Xboxygen: We know that factories in China were shut down for a while and Phil Spencer said afterwards that it was starting to pick up. We have readers asking us if they can be sure to have the console at the end of the year. Is there a risk with the current pandemic situation of perhaps having a console shortage, and are there priorities for example depending on the country that could be made?
Ina Gelbert: The choice we made on this launch is really to be present in more countries than at the launch of the Xbox One. Today I do not see any risk for France, under any circumstances. But if tomorrow, or a few days before the launch, there is a huge containment in the world… then we will not be able to do much about it. At least in our plan today, we have the units for the launch. France is in the priority countries. Now, will we have enough… It is always a big question, and that is where we get into discussions for us, and that is my role, to favour France over other countries. Show that we have the community, that we have the market, that there are huge expectations around the Xbox Series X in France and that we need units to cover this demand. Xboxygen: Is the production of the console already underway? Is she in the factories? Ina Gelbert: Oh, yes. It’s a lot of work to launch consoles like that, given the number of components etc. The lines to be set up in the factories… There’s a lot of work to do.
The Xbox Series X is due to launch sometime in holiday 2020 which for the US can be November – December but there have been rumours floating around that Xbox may be in a position to move forward into October or potentially September if the production process moves swiftly for them in the post COVID-19 recovery. We have yet to see anything confirmed from the US branch of team XBOX with regard to production of the Series X but this interview does line up with where a console launch year usually tracks.
