Mixer is getting a couple of new features, including advertisements, a new homepage and auto-hosting

Last summer Microsoft made big headlines by contracting big streamers such as Ninja and Shroud to their streaming platform Mixer. But after those moves it didn’t seem like Mixer was moving forward as hoped.

The service has now announced new features and improvements. This has happened partially due to streamer feedback. Some features have been in testing with a select group of Mixer partners and it all seems like a reponse to earlier rumblings about the platforms future.

The updates are:

  • A new homepage with more focus on featured content, AI-powered recommendations and a way to show all of the featured content at the same time
  • Auto-hosting is enabled for everyone. In the past few weeks Mixer has been testing auto-hosting with Mixer Partners. But from now on everyone can use this feature. Auto-hosting means that your channel will automatically host a streamer based on a list you can create. This way people in your network or people you like get a boost in viewership, without you doing anything.
  • Advertisements are coming to Mixer. Certain Mixer Partners have been testing advertisements for streams. Mixer didn’t have any advertisements untill this point. This was heavily requested by the streamers, as it’s a way for streamers to get extra income. Advertisements will go in beta, so all partners can use it.

Besides these changes Mixer has also changed the quality of emotes. In the April Xbox One system update you’ll also see improvements for the Mixer viewing experience.
