Yooka-Laylee developer Playtonic isn’t joining Xbox Game Studios, not making a new Banjo-Kazooie game

After some speculation that the development studio behind Yooka-Laylee and Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair could be joining Xbox Game Studios or could be making a new Banjo-Kazooie game, Playtonic has immediately removed any ongoing speculation with a statement.

In the above statement on Twitter the team says they are not working on the ‘bird and bear’ IP. They also state they are to remain an independent studio.

The speculation about Playtonic making a new Banjo-Kazooie is spicy. A lot of developers at Playtonic have worked at Rare. It is often believed many of them left Rare to be free from Microsoft’s creative input. Meanwhile, Rare hasn’t done anything of note with the Banjo-Kazooie IP for a long time.

They did come to Smash though.
