Microsoft has paid more than 1.2 billion dollars to independent developers this generation

During an interview with Kotaku Australia, the director of ID@Xbox Chris Charla has revealed that Microsoft has paid more than 1.2 billion dollars to independent developers during this generation.

Cuphead, Graveyard Keeper, Inside, Dead Cells, Subnautica. Those are just a couple of examples of ID@Xbox games that have gotten support from the program this generation.

Microsoft has ‘upped their game’ this generation when it comes to independent games. The sheer amount of money spend on indie titles is a affirmation of this. It’s unclear if this is only funding and promotion of games, or if this also includes deals and sales.

What’s coming up

Last year we had a Winter of Arcade in December. So who knows what’s coming up this winter. We do know that this month we’ll see the release of Afterparty on Xbox Game Pass.
