The president of Double Fine Productions, Tim Schafer, has told Destructoid that he’s unsure what the future of Double Fine Presents, the publishing branch of Double Fine, will be like. After the acquisition the indie publishing part of the company seems redundant. As ID@Xbox does the same thing, on a bigger scale.

Last month Double Fine published the indie game Knights and Bikes (see featured image above) for PlayStation and PC. Other games Double Fine has published include Gang Beasts and Everything.
“How Double Fine Presents will evolve is kind of an unknown. It doesn’t make sense to do exactly the kind of publishing stuff if we can’t do it– like if the platforms are limited. From a business sense, I don’t know if it structurally makes sense to have a publisher within [another publisher]. It’s a complicated issue.”

It seems it’s still unclear what the future of the publishing branch of Double Fine will be. Schafer does mention that the company will continue doing the ‘Day of the Devs’ which helps other developers by meeting with them, giving them advice and creating a place where developers can help each other.
But, one thing seems clear. Double Fine will continue their support for independent developers.
