Spotlight: Supermarket Shriek

Every week, we like to highlight some of the titles we’ve enjoyed on Game Pass, as part of our Spotlight series. If you read about it here, you should probably add it to your Game Pass queue!

Sometimes you just need a silly game to have some fun with. Well then, grab your microphone, your goat and a kart from your local supermarket and play Supermarket Shriek. It’s time to scream and most importantly, to scream in cooperation with either yourself or in co-op mode.

One of my many failed attempts of controlling a kart with a man and a goat.

Supermarket Shriek is an absurd game where a person and a goat sit in a supermarket kart. You control the cart by either screaming into your microphone or using the controls on your controller or keyboard. But when in a co-op setting it can be fun to scream for a while. It does tend to get quite annoying after quite some time.

In Supermarket Shriek you either turn left, turn right or drive straight ahead. And while that sounds like a normal thing to do in a game where you drive a kart, it turns out this can be quite challenging. As one voice or button controls steering on one side, while the other voice or button controls the other.

A conveyor belt, a hole with fire and a lot of boxes – utter chaos in Supermarket Shriek

While playing you’ll visit plenty of different shopping locations, where your goal can be as simple as finding the exit, but along the way your shopping quests can become more and more layered.
When you are racing in these local stores, you’ll smash all kinds of things and make a complete mess of the local retail locations. As you progress in this game you’ll see the shops becoming more luxurious and the quests in the shops becoming more difficult. There is one mainstreet that acts like the mission select screen, which you’ll have to manoeuver too. Finishing levels in the best way possible gives you three stars. You’ll need stars to enter further areas in the shopping street.

The fun? A fast paced objective based top down racing game with often times enjoyable, sometimes frustrating, controls while hearing the screams of goats and men constantly coming from your speakers. Pure madness.

And the best part? It’s available on Xbox Game Pass for Xbox and PC.
