Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition could be coming to Xbox

In an answer to Twinfinite, the team behind the remaster of Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition has said they’d try to ”figure out” how and if they could bring the game to consoles.

The game is coming to Steam, Windows 10 and Xbox Game Pass for PC on November 14th. But Xbox fans have been asking for a console version ever since Microsoft restated their interest and commitment to the ”billion dollar franchise” Age of Empires.

In a response to Twinfinite, Adam Isgreen, creative director at Xbox, said the following:

“So, the plan is that I want to make the best PC RTS possible first. Now there’s mouse and keyboard support on Xbox, but so many people don’t have mouse and keyboard that they can plug in.
So, I think the challenge, and what I want to fool around with afterwards, is… once we get this done, we’re gonna look at what we can do for console controls, like building a console control scheme specifically for Age of Empires.
We don’t have anything to announce about console right now, but we’re going to go try to figure it out. “

Question for the team will be if they are able to translate the complex controls of a PC RTS game to a console with a controller. Of course, there is mouse and keyboard support on Xbox One, but it seems Microsoft is not keen on releasing games on the console platform that don’t support a controller. Maybe they’ve learned something from the Kinect era.
